we offer temporary housing to domestic violence victims and their pets so they can find safety together, and provide foster homes for pets of Domestic violence victims in shelters.

Up to sixty-five percent of domestic violence victims are unable to escape their abusers because they are concerned about what will happen to their pets if they leave. Seventy-one percent of pet-owning women entering women’s shelters reported that their batterer had threatened, injured, or killed family pets for revenge or psychological control.

“I was being abused by my boyfriend and I wanted to find someone to take my animals until we could all be safe. My animals to me have always been such a comfort that I knew not having them would break my heart, but them being free of the abuse was better for them. ShelterMe took them in and then drove me to a shelter where I started my life over. ShelterMe helped me get my life back and my pets back too! If it wasn’t for ShelterMe who knows what would have happened to me." -MR
